The Astronomical Clock (Pražský orloj), mounted on the Old Town Hall in Prague, is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks and a masterpiece of medieval engineering. First installed in 1410, it is the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest still in operation. The clock not only tells the time but also shows astronomical details such as the positions of the sun and moon, and even the zodiac signs. Every hour, crowds gather to watch the famous procession of the Twelve Apostles, along with animated figures like the skeleton of Death striking the time. Blending Gothic art and scientific ingenuity, the Astronomical Clock has stood for centuries as a symbol of Prague’s rich history and craftsmanship.
